This coat was beautiful in my head, in the sketch, and even half sewn. But when I finally put it all together it didn’t look right. The loosely woven wool stretched and sagged, while the cotton lining did not, making the coat pucker around the buttons and pulling up the hem into an unwanted bubble skirt. I’m going to try to fix it by pulling it apart and adding some interfacing to stiffen the wool. (Anyone who sews, do you think my this will work? Any other suggestions?)

I really like your sketch. I’m so sorry it’s not coming out as planned. I don’t know much about pattern making, but perhaps find someone who does(?)
I’m no expert when it comes to sewing clothes, but I think this coat looks GORGEOUS – I honestly don’t see anything wrong with it.
Bummer! I see what you mean about the skirt being off.
Once I messed up a pillow case. (Oh the shame.) I had been making a lot of them, so I thought I could just eyeball the shape I wanted without measuring. Not so much. On the bright side, I made it too big so at least it was easy to fix.
I can see your vision of this coat, and it looks amazing! I wish I could offer some sewing advice, but I’m a novice myself. Adding interfacing seems like it would work, but I’ve never tried anything like that. I love the way it gathers in at the waist in the back by the way.
Maybe adding fusible or woven interfacing under the buttons/buttonholes might help…or…
treat the wool skirt like you would fabric cut on the bias? Let it hang overnight, then hem it the next day. It might hang better that way?
Definitely some fusible interfacing would fix your problem. All coats need a good support system. Just don’t fuse the seam allowance, you don’t want it to be too bulky.
